Canadiana roots and blues from Calgary, AB.

Oh jeez - guess its been a long time.

So what have I been up to since my last post several months ago?

I'm currently hosting an open mic at Starbucks (the Country Hills Blvd and Sarcee Trail location in Calgary.) Interesting doing an open mic at a coffee shop, nice that its all-ages and open to people who are not necessarily into hanging out in bars.

I've also been writing the occasional song, getting ready to put out a CD - hopefully early next year. I've got a bunch of songs, and will do some more writing so I have a good crop to choose from.

Also had the chance to see some local talent and friends performing at their various CD-Release parties.

McKinley Matters is a local blues (and I'd say part alt-rock) band who writes some great material and is fronted by Guy Chaput who is a very dynamic performer. Check the site at www.MckinleyMatters.com. They just put out a live recording done here at Calgary's Ironwood Stage and Grill - which is where they also did the release party.

Sora (www.SoraMusic.ca) is a local Celtic inspired performer who released her album Heartwood earlier this year. The CD Release was at an older church where the acoustics were amazing. Felt kind of odd walking around after the party drinking wine in the church, but it was cool. I had the pleasure of writing a review of her previous EP. The new album (with a bigger budget) is wonderfully done, and the concert was truly enjoyable.

Anthony Burbidge is a New Thought performer - very inspiring songs and speaking which go to the heart of self-actualization. His CD Release party featured performers from around the world, touching on a great mingeling of sounds. Anthony's site is www.AnthonyBurbidge.com.

All for now,
Neil
